Just wanted to let you guys know that if you live in the Los Angeles area, you can currently get the Unauthorized San Diego Comic-Con Survival Guide exclusively at a handful of stores, from the South Bay to the Valley. As for San Diego itself, no shops currently carry it, but I’d love a good reason to take a trip down there during the “off season”. I had made the books available last year at a few comic retailers, but was mostly met with indifference by some store owners (nearly all of the ones who carried my book have sold out). From what I could tell, they had the attitude that their customers certainly wouldn’t need any assistance in dealing with Comic-Con, simply because they are nerds and nerds know everything (it’s insulting to even question it!). Of course, all of their customers have been going to San Diego Comic-Con for years and if you’ve gone once, you’ve learned all there is to know, right? Riiiiight. They wouldn’t happen to ever get *NEW* customers in their stores, would they? No. Probably wouldn’t welcome anyone who isn’t a hardcore comic geek anyway. I just know that if I was a newbie going to Comic-Con for the first time ever, I’d look online for help or maybe even check out a comic shop to see if they had any resources… and while there, check out what these Thor and Green Lantern guys are all about.
So many of you from around the world have been so supportive by snatching up the Unauthorized San Diego Comic-Con Survival Guide online that I really haven’t needed a ton of comic shops to sell my book (I do make more when you buy it from me directly). But if you are in the LA area and are looking for a copy, the guys at the Comic Bug in Manhattan Beach just got a new batch in this Wednesday. Meltdown on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood might have a few left. And if you’re in the Burbank area, swing by Blast From the Past. They might have a few in stock as well.
THE DEAL: If your local shop, no matter where you are in the world, doesn’t have copies of the Unauthorized San Diego Comic-Con Survival Guide on the shelves, tell them about it! If you can get your local comics and collectible store to contact me and buy a batch of just 10 books (at a retailer’s discount), I will send YOU a free copy of the book! I’ll even sign it (or all of them) if that strikes your fancy. They’re sure to rise in value once I become a swarthy celebrity fixture on TMZ. Just have them contact me to work out the details.
